Regional Academic Centre for Space
  • The RAC-S is pursuing advanced research in areas relevant to the future technological and programmatic needs of the Indian Space Programme, and acts as a facilitator for promoting space technology activities in the central region comprising Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh.
  • IIT(BHU) is coordinating the research activities and acting as the lead centre. RAC-S is also engaging other institutes of excellence in Science and Technology within the region to participate in research and development activities of the centre.
  • The centre is headed by a regional coordinator who is responsible for the overall management of the RAC-S.
  • IIT(BHU) serves as an ambassador for capacity building, awareness creation, and R&D activities of ISRO in the region.
  • ISRO and IIT(BHU) have identified associated institutes from Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh to participate in the programme and develop joint project proposals in research areas relevant to the space programme. A formal agreement will be signed between IIT(BHU) and the state institutes for project submission.
  • The centre is considering both short- and long-term projects. Short-term projects for B.Tech. and M.Tech. students may last up to one year, while long-term R&D projects may extend beyond one year, preferably leading to Ph.D. programmes.
  • Events such as conferences, exhibitions, and short courses will also be conducted to build a knowledge base in the region.

 

Call for Research Proposals under RAC-S, ISRO at IIT (BHU)

The Regional Academic Centre for Space (RAC-S) of ISRO at IIT (BHU) invites research proposals in areas relevant to the national space programme and ISRO’s thrust research & development areas from the central region comprising the states of Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh. Faculty members are requested to submit their proposals under the following categories:

Categories of Research Proposals:
  • Long-Duration Research Proposals • Duration: 2-3 Years
  • Short-Duration Undergraduate (UG) Research Projects • Duration: 6 - 12 Months
Guidelines for Proposal Submission:
  • Principal Investigator (PI) Eligibility: Faculty members can submit proposals as Principal Investigator (PI). The Principal Investigators from the institutions (other than IIT(BHU)) should collaborate with faculty member of IIT (BHU) in accordance with the requirements of the proposal.   • Proposal Submission Limit: Each faculty member may submit only one proposal as a PI in either category, but can apply for both categories.
  • Research Topics: Proposals must align with the research areas outlined in ISRO’s document on space-related research(3_Research_Areas_Space_Doc2025) / (https://www.isro.gov.in/media_isro/pdf/programme/Research_Areas_Space_Doc2025.pdf)
  • Research objectives must be mentioned pointwise and clearly defined. The present state of art must be presented and research methodology to be adopted should be clear and concise.
  • Collaboration with ISRO Scientists: It is recommended to develop project proposals in collaboration with scientists from ISRO centres (https://www.isro.gov.in/isro_centre.html)
Review and Recommendation Process:
  • Submitted proposals will be forwarded to the respective centres of ISRO for review processes (https://www.isro.gov.in/isro_centre.html)
  • Based on the recommendations of the ISRO centres, selected proposals will be invited for presentation in front of the Joint Policy and Management Committee (JPMC),
